Pirate w/Dagger Herzel Pompeian Bronze Bookend
"Pirate with Sword and Dagger", made circa 1925 by the Pompeian Bronze Company, a single vintage electroformed bronze-clad figural book end, with original polychrome paint (red, blue). Rare, not even listed in Kuritzky and De Costa.
Marked "(c) Paul Herzel" on the base, this finely detailed piece is one of the many outstanding designs by Paul Herzel, creator of a number of pirates, buccaneers, swashbucklers, and musketeers for Pompeian Bronze. Most Herzel pirates have a sword and one of the following: a treasure chest, a coiled rope, a musket, etc. This pirate has a sword in his right hand, and his left hand rests on a dagger that is tucked into the sash around his waist.
Important: This listing is for ONE (1) bookend only; it could be used as a coffee table figurine or sculpture, desk paperweight, or statuette on the mantle. Of course, you can use it as a single bookend if your bookshelf is closed at one end. Or, pair it with another book end that you own.
SPECS: Measures about 9.0" tall by 3.8" wide by 2.4" deep, and weighs in at 2 lbs 6 oz. Original paint and patina in very good condition -- see the photos. No breaks or tears in the bronze cladding.
