Description -m- Item # 21001340

Strikingly translucent alabaster in white, pale green, orange, and grey — at first glance these bookends might be mistaken for onyx or quench-crackling-dyed milky quartz, given that alabaster generally has a more opaque appearance. And the artisan carved them so that, when placed against books, each faces not exactly perpendicular away from the book, but rather with head turned slightly toward the viewer. Tall at 10 inches and fairly heavy at more than 6 pounds, a pretty pair of carved stone cockatoo bookends. Cockatoos are a type of parrot, and often kept as pets.

Given the beautiful orange color of the crests, and the grey color of the beaks, we think that this pair were intended to be Citron-crested Cockatoos, a medium-sized cockatoo with an orange crest, dark grey beak, pale orange ear patches, and strong feet and claws, here is the Wikipedia page on the Citron-crested Cockatoo

SPECS: Overall height is 10", widths are 3.6" and 3.7" tailfeather-to-headfeather, by 2.1" deep, weight is 6 lbs 6 oz the pair. Befitting their age, there are numerous nicks, chips, and fleabites on both birds, and it appears that the crest of one of the birds was broken and re-attached. Please study all of the photos carefully, We have tried to point to the more significant issues in detailed close-up photos.
