Made in England, circa 1910, a Royal Doulton "Monks In The Cellar" collector plate (Monks Inspecting Fish) showing two monks standing at a table inspecting fish (in blue glazes), the monks are wearing robes, one is wearing an apron. Also in the scene: A barrel or cask, a bowl, background of architecture arches and windows (in pale green). An intricate pattern around the periphery includes glazing colors brown red green and yellow.
On the bottom: ROYAL DOULTON, ENGLAND, with lion-on-crown hallmark, D2877, impressed datecode (unreadable). Dimple in the center plus three pontil marks near the rim.
SPECS: 10.6" diameter, weight 1 lb 4 oz. Crazing all over, particularly on the back.
