Description -- Item # 21004040

Circa 1920s, Chantilly pattern, T. G. Hawkes & Co. handblown intaglio-cut antique crystal bowl, acid-etched HAWKES mark in block letters, on the bottom adjacent to the ground pontil.

This bowl is not marked with the usual trefoil logo, please note the following regarding marks used by T. G. Hawkes & Company., courtesy of Replacements.com (Archived here)

❝ The Hawkes Rich Cut Glass Works was established in 1880 in Corning, New York. In 1890, the firm was incorporated as T. G. Hawkes & Co. The firm's logo was a trefoil form enclosing a hawk in each of the two bottom lobes with a fleur-de-lis in the center. By 1920, only the acid-etched name HAWKES began to appear. ❞

SPECS: Diameter 8.0 inches, height 2.25 inches, weight 3.1 pounds. The rim is in perfect condition, no chips. Considerable scuffing and scratches on the bottom as would be expected on a piece of this vintage. Also on the bottom: Acid-etched HAWKES mark in block letters, an engraved number “43-35-55”, three small nicks along the sharply-cut intaglio edges, not easily seen and perceived more by touch.

Please note: In order to clearly show the faint acid-etched HAWKES mark and the engraved numbers, those photos (which include a 6-inch steel scale and pink pointer) have increased contrast applied. The acid-etched HAWKES mark is barely visible and far more subtle than it appears in Photo # 101_0157

Rare piece, while we’ve found some Hawkes glasses in this pattern we’ve yet to see another Hawkes bowl of this vintage cut with this beautiful organic flowing Chantilly pattern.
