Bausch & Lomb c.1910s Antique Colorimeter w/ Hexagonal Glass Prisms
Vintage antique Bausch & Lomb Colorimeter, with hexagonal prism-like solid glass optical pieces. Date of manufacture unknown but presumed to be 1910s or early 1920s as no patent numbers are present on the nameplate. Similar in design to patents issued in the 1930s. Nameplate reads: Bausch & Lomb Optical Co. Rochester, N.Y. U.S.A. No. 8543, Pat. Appl’d.
SPECS: Base measures 6.25 x 5.3 inches, overall height 14.7 inches, weight 10 lbs 11 oz, base and structure are steel, vertical slide mechanisms appear to be of brass construction. Both the left an right sample stages move smoothly upon rotation of the knurled height adjusters.
Optical parts: The hexagonal glass prisms are in very good shape considering its age, there are a few tiny nicks on the bottoms. The sample-illumination mirror shows some de-lamination around the edges, the scales-illumination mirror has more substantial de-lamination. Please carefully study the photos. Untested, but the view through eyepiece suggests functional.
Nice display piece in any lab or office. Shipped disassembled for safer transit, but no tools are required for re-assembly: Simply carefully thread in the pair of hexagonal optical glass pieces and use the pair of small thumbscrews to attach the eyepiece assembly.
