Ultra-rare Underwood Portable Apothecary Typewriter, “3-Bank” (just 3 rows of keys: lowercase, uppercase and figures each key), key-tops are made of glass.
On the front: “Underwood Standard Portable Typewriter” but this 3-Bank antique typewriter is anything but “standard” — it was made specially for pharmacists — the FIG key includes pharmacy specific characters, such as:
℞ (Rx, “recipe”, “take”)
℈ (scruple)
℥ (ounce)
ʒ (dram)
Serial number 105874 dates its production as Feb-June 1924, though most likely made in February 1924 given its nearness to serial numbers started that month, that from TWDB’s index of Underwood 3-Bank
Petite and taking little display space in your home or office, on it’s attached base this attractive little “ultra portable” from Underwood measures about 12 x 9 x 4.5 inches tall and weighs just 7.7 lbs.
Due to many decades of it being attached to its case-bottom, the typewriter can not (easily) be removed; the rest of the case is missing; only the base is included. Untested; for display purposes; in as-found condition and sold AS-IS.
