“Sword Ready Pirate” made Art Deco Period circa 1925 by the Pompeian Bronze Company, a pair of vintage electroformed bronze-clad figural book ends, with original polychrome paint (red, white, dark blue). Featuring a swashbuckling pirate, sword-in-hand, pistol under sash, skull and crossbones on hat, fierce glaring mustached face -- this character could well have stepped out of the pages of "Treasure Island" by Robert Louis Stevenson, a tale of buccaneers and buried gold, published in 1883 and illustrated by N.C. Wyeth.
SPECS: Each measures about 10.3" tall, base about 5.4" by 2.6", the pair weighs in at 6 lbs 9 oz. Each is marked "P. Beneduce" on the back.
